Welcome back, Happy Army!
We're gonna talk about my favorite topic: Finding the right kinds of foods according to your body type based on Ayurveda!
Now, I know food is kind of a messy subject, and it can bring up a lot of negative feelings for people. But don't panic. We aren't going to talk about any strict diets or super expensive programs.
Ayurveda is all about understanding your dosha—or unique constitution— so that you can stay balanced and healthy in accordance to your body.
And today, we are diving right in on all things Pitta!
For pitta types, who embody the fire and water elements, life often comes with a sense of intensity, determination, and transformation. But that fiery nature can sometimes lead to excess heat and inflammation, sometimes even a bit of a temper.

If this sounds like you, don't worry. Cooling, nourishing foods can help balance aggravated pitta and reduce that excess heat in the body.
In this post, we’ll explore some refreshing, energizing foods specifically chosen to help pitta individuals feel balanced and calm.
We will be focusing on:

The Pitta Diet Philosophy
For pitta types, the key is to go for foods that are cooling, hydrating, and calming. These qualities help dial down that natural heat and intensity.
Choosing foods that promote balance lets you stay energized and peaceful, keeping that inner fire manageable.
Energizing Foods for Pitta Types
Hydrating Fruits
Fruits such as watermelon, cucumbers, and melons are very rich in water, and are extremely cooking. These are perfect for balancing pitta’s natural heat while keeping you hydrated.
Leafy Greens
Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and lettuce are super nutrient-dense and bring a natural cooling effect to the body. Especially when they are raw. Salads with a ton of leafy vegetables are a great option for this body type!
Sweet and Bitter Flavors
Go for foods with sweet and bitter tastes—they’re super cooling and help keep pitta’s intensity in check. Think sweet fruits, root veggies, and bitter greens for variety.
Whole Grains
Whole grains like basmati rice, quinoa, and barley are easy on digestion and give steady energy without adding extra heat.
Coconut and Coconut Oil
Coconut is a pitta person's best friend! My sister is a high pitta individual, and you will always find her eating or drinking something with coconut in it.
Coconut water, coconut oil… anything coconut helps soothe pitta’s natural intensity and calms inflammation.
The coconut-cucumber smoothie (recipe found in The Hot Belly Diet by Dr. Suhas G. Kshirasagar), is super beneficial for everyone, but my pitta-body friends have said this was their life-saver! it's this super cooling Ayurvedic drink that cools their body, calms them down, even helps with acidity difficulties by bringing their body back to balance! Herbal Teas
Sorry to all the coffee lovers, but coffee is something we would have to stay away from. It aggravates pitta body types since it is extremely stimulating. Coffee can also irritate a pitta-person's extremely acidic stomach and very sensitive gut.
Try cooling herbal teas like peppermint, chamomile, and licorice. They’re gentle on your digestive system and will help you relax.
Dairy Alternatives
Choose cooling options like almond milk or coconut milk, which are usually easier on pitta’s sensitive digestion.
Mung Beans
Mung beans are gentle, easy to digest, and bring a cooling effect that’s perfect for pitta types.
Fresh Herbs
Cooling herbs like cilantro, mint, and fennel are perfect herbs to add to your meals. They’re refreshing, flavorful, and help keep pitta’s heat in balance.
My father, who is also a pitta individual, is in love with cilantro. He literally refuses to eat any meal without it. And I can say without a doubt, it definitely helps keep his acidity in balance.
Moderate Spices
Keep the spices to a minimum, especially things like chilis or red pepper. All its going to do is overstimulate your digestive system, and make your pitta go off the rails!
Cooling spices like coriander, cardamom, and turmeric are a much better option. They support digestion without turning up the heat on your pitta constitution.
And Finally
For pitta types, boosting energy and well-being is all about picking foods that bring coolness and nourishment.
By choosing ingredients that balance out heat and intensity, you’ll feel more calm, energized, and centered.
But finding the right ingredients is just the first step. The next hurdle is creating time-efficient meals that are healthy for you. And that's not easy. Luckily, The Hot Belly Diet by Dr. Suhas G. Kshirsagar has a bunch of recipes that are easy to make and delicious! it's divided up based on Ayurvedic dosha, so you cannot go wrong with any of these meals. It also covers a 30-day body reset so that you can start your health journey on the right foot! I cannot recommend this book enough.
That's it for now! Sending positive vibes your way, and happy exploring!
